‘Online’ Registration Closes Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Midnight – Race Kit Pickup Dates Announced

Online registration for the Coquitlam Crunch Diversity Challenge closes at midnight on Wednesday, Sept. 4th. You’ll want to take advantage of registering online, as you’ll pay a lower registration fee, and you can take advantage of pre-event package pickup of your Race Kit (race bib and shoe time chip).

Race Kits can be collected at Port Coquitlam Running Room at #202, 2748 Lougheed Hwy only during these dates and times:

  • Thursday, Sept. 6th, from 7 – 9 p.m., and
  • Friday, Sept. 7th, from 7 – 9 p.m.

If you are unable to pick up during this time, your kit will be ready for you at the registration table on race day from 7 a.m. You can also register on race day!

Please note that you will be required to fill out a waiver on race day.

Medals will be awarded in 4 age groups (15 and under; 16- 35 years; 36-64 years; and 65 or over ) in both female and male divisions for the STAIR MASTER challenge, and the MAKE IT OR BREAK IT events.

If racing is not for you, register in our RECREATIONAL category that will formally start at 10 a.m.  This category is perfect for the entire family, or a group of friends or colleagues. We also have a beer garden sponsored by Yellow Dog Brewing and Mariner Brewing with a bird’s eye view of the start / finish line and the trail, so spectators are welcomed too!

The event supports the Coquitlam Foundation‘s Diversity Fund and the Dogwood Seniors Society’s Nothin’ Dragon Masters senior dragon boat racing team, and their community initiatives.

Crunch Challenge Founder Acknowledged for Community Leadership

Coquitlam Crunch Diversity Challenge founder, Alex Bell was acknowledged for his community leadership on January 25, 2018, by Ron McKinnon, MP for Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam.

Bell was nominated by Robbin Whachell, seconded by Mayor Richard Stewart and was presented with a Canada 150 pin and certificate.  McKinnon was assigned with 22 pins to award to constituents.

8th Annual Coquitlam Crunch Challenge Awarding Medals in Four Age Groups

This is the second year  the Coquitlam Crunch Diversity Challenge will award medals in four age, as official time-keeping is again being handled by Trio Sport Events.

“Everyone will have a bib and time chip,” said president of the new event organizers Brian Kenny, President, Nothin’ Dragon Masters. “We’ll hand out gold, silver, and bronze medals to our top three competitors in the Make It Or Break It and the Stair Master for both male and female in four ages groups.”

Medal presentations will follow directly after the Stair Master at approximately 8:45 a.m. and the Make It Or Break It medals will be presented before 1: 30 p.m. The full event schedule is at the base of this article.

Age groups are: -15 years; 16-35 years; 36-65 years;  and 66+ years. A BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD will be awarded in age group for both male and female divisions.

Although online registration has closed, you can still register on event day starting at 7 a.m. on location at the Crunch base camp.

Here are the three ways you can still participate:

  • Starting at 8 am the STAIR MASTER challenges athletes to see who is the fastest running up the 437 stairs of the Crunch – Fee is  $20 / $15 Youth / $18 Seniors
  • From 9 am to 1 pm, the MAKE IT OR BREAK IT category challenges athletes to see how many times they can go up and down the full length of the Crunch within 4 hours – Fee is $30 / $20 Youth / $22 Seniors
  • From 9:30 am to 1 pm with a formal start at 10 am, the RECREATIONAL category simply encourages everyone to come out and support community, get some exercise, enjoy the day and try to complete the Coquitlam Crunch at least once or even twice in 2 hours – Fee (suggested donation) is $20 individual / $40 family, but any amount will be received!

Coquitlam gym owner puts out Stair Master challenge in support of diversity

Dean Brandt, owner of BodyByBrandt Fitness in #Coquitlam, would Like to Challenge all other gym owners and trainers in the Tri-Cities to match or beat his time in the STAIR MASTER event in the Coquitlam Crunch ‘Diversity’ Challenge taking place on Sept. 9th, 2017 at 8 a.m.

Brandt stated in a letter, that if another gym owner or personal trainer beats his time, he will personally donate an additional $200 to the charitable causes of the event!

You do not have to be a fitness trainer or gym owner to compete. This is the second year the Stair Master is being offered, and the inaugural event had only 9 participants, and was won by Trevor Schmidt with a time of 2:02.  Full 2016 Stair Master results here.

“This is a new event for us, and we know this year we’ll have far more competitors,” said Alex Bell, event founder. “We remind everyone that both the Stair Master, and the Make It or Break It 4-hour challenge have four age groups, and medals will be presented for the top three in both male and female divisions.”

Come out and try for a personal best, or challenge members of your family to see who is the fastest.  Timing is being provided by Trio Sports Events.

Online registration closes on September 7th offering a reduced entry fee. Race kits will be available for pickup before event day on September 7 and 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Running Room Port Coquitlam, so you can come out on event day ready to go.

7th annual Coquitlam Crunch Diversity Challenge scheduled for Saturday, September 10th is UNDERWAY and is being supported by the City of Coquitlam and is a #Coquitlam125 sanctioned event. The 2016 edition will bring in professional timekeeping thanks to TRIO Sports Events, and registration is being handled by the Running Room.
