Coquitlam Community Diversity Fund Tops $20,000 Mark

Coquitlam B.C. – Organizers of the 2018 Coquitlam Crunch ‘Diversity’ Challenge, the Nothin’ Dragon Masters 50+ dragon boat team presented a $1,500.00 cheque to the Coquitlam Foundation for the “Diversity Fund” recently and to date, the event has raised over $20,000 for the Fund.

“It is great to see that after nine years, the Coquitlam Crunch Challenge continues to bring out so many people to support the fundraising goals of the Community Diversity Fund. As that fund grows so does the ability of the fund to help others,” said Dwight Yochim, Executive Director, Coquitlam Foundation.

“I would like to acknowledge the contribution of the Nothin Dragon Master’s who have been running the event and their generosity to donate not only their time but all of the proceeds to the Coquitlam Community Diversity Fund,” said Alex Bell, event founder whose vision is to have people representing every diversity group participating annually. The fund provides grants to diversity initiatives that enhance the social and/or economic integration of diversity groups into the community. “Diversity groups include age (seniors and youth), socioeconomic (ie: homeless), mental health challenges, physical disabilities, LGBTQ, new immigrants, visible minorities,” said Bell. In 2018 the Fund supported the Tri-Cities Brain Injury Support Group.

Grant applications are now being accepted for the Community Diversity Fund, and groups may apply by contacting the Coquitlam Foundation by February 15.

Looking toward the 10th annual Coquitlam Crunch Challenge which will be held Sunday, September 8, 2019, organizers are actively seeking sponsors to support the cause. Interested groups or businesses can email coquitlamcrunch@gmail.com.

The Coquitlam Crunch ‘Diversity’ Challenge is an annual event founded by Tri-City’s resident Alex Bell, which celebrates diversity and supports the Coquitlam Foundation’s ‘Diversity’ Fund. The event started in 2010 and takes place at the Coquitlam Crunch hiking trail in B.C., Canada.
